Why We Stop Reading ... and How To Start Again

March 23, 20261 min read

It's a growing trend in many things. You have a hobby or past time that you do all the time.. and then suddenly, you stop. Maybe you lost interest, maybe time is limited. Whatever the reason you're done with it... well kind of.

Readers seem to have this problem a lot and the ones I have spoken with actually want to keep reading. It's kind of a fatigue in a way, where they want to keep going but don't have the drive.

So why do we stop and how can we continue?

Many tests have shown that it's more due to time, motivation and choices. Many readers say other things like work or chores take up more time nowadays, and that leads to little desire (or motivation) to pick a book. However, another big issue people have told me, is there are too many titles. Authors keep bringing out new books back to back and you haven't finished the first one.

How can you continue then? Give yourself space to read at your pace. Give yourself one book (two if you want) and say you will read 5-10 minutes for a week. After that week, you can see if maybe the book just isn't doing it, or maybe you'll retrain your brain to say, I remember why I love to read.

Let me know if you are interested in learning more about this and until next time... go read a book!!
