Community & Bookstores: How They Go Hand in Hand
As another year begins, I thought it would be the perfect time to share why bookstores and communities are important to each other.
I have always believed, and continue to do so, that books are one thing that most people seem to connect with in some way. Books may be used for work or fun, but either way, you get to be transported somewhere and learn amazing things.
An article from The Regal Writer showed me that this idea is still true and thriving. Not only are they good for the economy, they give that feeling of home and community because they are run by locals who live in the city. This gives the customers a feel that these independent store owners truly understand them.
According to the American Booksellers Association, in 2022 alone, almost 180 bookstores opened, and another 200 or so are open or plan to open soon in the next year. This in comparison to only about 50 stores closing, shows that this independent business model is loved by many people.
I like to think our store, The Next Chapter Bookstore, isn’t just for selling books, far from it. We want to make sure a few things are taken care of each time you come by. We want to make sure we can give to the community in anyway we can. Giving books to teachers who may need them and even helping local dogs and cats find forever homes.
We want to curate what we have, to our best ability. Now, we are a used bookstore and usually have an special range of books, but that doesn’t mean we won’t do what we can to get you the books you want. Finally, we hold events (online and in person) to show you that it’s always important to have fun, even if you’re working.
At the end of the day, our store is a business, but helping others is our main goal. We want to be the friend you need if you need a quick break from the day.
